[About]
‘Tie’ was originally both an outdoor installation and sort of ceremonially passing. A passing of transition in time, and consideration of what or who passes before and after their time in service. Much like the sun, and consideration of it’s rising and setting over the stretched strips and posts.
Then in the gallery, symbology still carried. The person ‘remains’ the same, and the materials are roughly similar.
Bed sheet → Torn → Stripes → Flag
Posts → Post(s) of Soldier
Carried / Installation Elsewhere → Ceremonial Passing
While the onlook of the sun and ‘barren’ field is absent, the ‘barren’ feeling isn’t; neither is the passage of time this piece has endured from ‘start’ to ‘finish’.
