[About]

Originally titled with the poem “My brother is not dead, but my brother is not home. He is somewhere distant, without a flag to fold. Every passing hour, he is tender, staid. He forgets the very hour before for his country his life he did lay”, the piece was renamed with the name from a print done earlier in the artist’s career. Both the name and stylistic choices made within the work reminisce on a soldier’s life before, during, and after the war. Subtle, yes.

Within the piece, nothing seems to portray what the individual’s life was like before going into service. In fact, no emblems or stars are featured either; leaving the viewer to ponder on who this person was and is still… still. A still life of a still soldier.
